I used no white paint to lighten the color values with this painting. If anything is a lighter color, it is because there is only one layer of thin paint with the gesso showing through. I've noticed when working with thin layers of paint that sometimes if you want to go back over something, the thin layer slides to the side and becomes marred with new brush strokes. This is very insufferable to the average hapless perfectionist (a thing I admit I have been). I decided with this painting to play with this. I put down thin layers of paint, and went behind with a "watered down" brush (Of course with oil paint, you're not using water. You're using one of an aisle-full of options you would be faced with at the art store. Just grab one and run. Hope it works. For what it's worth, I use galkyd lite and mineral spirits). Anyway, with the watered down brush, you can go back in and make the most interesting textures. It's awesome if you meant to do that! Maybe even if you didn't.
This quality giclee print is printed on a 20 x 24 inch canvas with a floating frame.
